WAVE BYE BYE TO ASTHMA BY PLAYING THE HARMONICA
I inherited my dads harmonica when he passed away and since then I've been trying to learn how to play it - definitely not ready for an audience yet! In the process though I've noticed how it has dramatically improved my breathing. I was given a peak flow meter years ago (as an ex-asthmatic you use these to measure your breathing) and have never reached beyond 180. Today I reached a milestone - nearly 800, which is top of the meter. I put this down to practicing the harmonica, which is actually really difficult to play and involves learning to exercise your lungs.
Over the years I've been working on improving my breathing and realising that your breath controls so much about you as a person - this includes your posture - bad posture bad breathing.
Anyway the moral of this post, is if you suffer from asthma or panic attacks, please go invest in an harmonica. My aim is to play 'Bright Side of the Road' by Van Morrison in honour of our dear friend Abigail that very sadly left this world. Still have a long way to go, but she is inspiring me every step of the way.
